The Error of Our Ways

Am I seeing double?  No need to adjust your glasses, you ARE in fact seeing double.  This particular mint error is called “rotated hub doubling”.  Not all coins that hit the streets are perfect.  Actually, there are hundreds of different errors that can occur during the minting process.  Not every coin can be inspected, and from time to time coin manufacturing machines do not always work perfectly.  Not only is it interesting to see these freaks of the mint, but some of these errors can be worth hundreds, even thousands of dollars.  Imagine finding a penny in your pocket change worth $1200 or a nickel worth over $20,000!  Check out these links to see some of the errors to look out for.
